couch potato
I like hanging out at the pub with my friends, talking about everything under the sun. When at home I like to watch documentaries on TV. Most documentaries I watch have something to do with my other hobbies but some don't. For instance, I like to watch Ray Mears, a survival expert and the only man in the world who can make fire by rubbing two boy scouts together.
history reenactment (WW2)
When I do get up from the couch I do history reenactment. I'm a member of the VHM, a group which reenacts the military history of the 20th century. My alter ego in the group is one of a WW2 War Correspondent. This ties in neatly with another hobby, photography.
WW2 also lead me to reproducing documents for use in the field. Some of those documents can be found in the 'dod' section as part of the collection of the D'Ondergrondse Drukkerij - The Underground Press.
history reenactment (Vikings)
Viking reenactment is something I've been doing since 1994. I wanted to be a warrior, but RSI kept me from swinging a sword around. It is actually fairly dangerous to let the sword fly from your hand; somebody might get hurt... I now sit by the fire side and contemplate life.
I edit the quarterly Íthróttir. This is a magazine for Viking-age reenactors. Not tied to any reenactment society, Íthróttir is read by Vikings from Europe, the USA, Canada and Australia.
guns
I shoot. Not only with cameras but also with real guns. I shoot both rifle and pistol at my shooting club 'Cartouche'. We have a 25m pistol range and a 50m rifle range. I shoot there every other week.
reading
I love to read. I will read everything I can lay my hands on. If I have nothing to read I surf the net searching for letters in a meaningful order. I read mostly 900+ page books, predominantly Science Fiction and Fantasy. I do not reenact Star Wars or Star Trek and neither do I walk around with elves ears or shaggy tails attached to my anatomy. I'll leave that to others.
computers
I have a Macintosh dual G5 running OSX which I use for day-to-day work. 'Nough said. If you have an old Cray XMP-1 on your desk let me know. Please include construction diagrams of the desk. This website runs on an old Intel box with Linux. I don't do Windows so don't ask me for help if you're afflicted with that particular malady.
